We started with the Lakes Entrance Tourist Centre. They were busy and not much help. We really wanted to get some fresh fish and prawns but still were not quite sure how it worked or where we needed to go. With no real plans we drove around and came across the Eastern Beach car park and thought this would be a good place to take the dogs for a little walk.
Eastern beach – no dogs allowed
We got the dogs out of the car and spotted the no dogs allowed sign. David took the dogs to the nearby playground while I walked on the soft sand track to check out the beach. Along the way I asked a couple of fishermen where they recommended buying some fresh prawns and fish.
Where to buy fresh prawns and fish in Lakes Entrance
The fishermen said that there were good fresh prawns to buy from a boat opposite McDonalds, and to get fish from the Lakes Entrance Fishermans Co-op. Dave bought .5 kilo of fresh cooked prawns off the boat, and some gummy shark from thee fish co-op. With the prawns and fish in the car fridge ( the car fridge is a WAECO CFX 28 and we think it is a little ripper) we looked for somewhere to have lunch.
Vibez Cafe and Wine bar for lunch
We found a cafe we could sit outside with the dogs and have some lunch. David had some nachos and I had a bacon and egg focaccia with chutney and a chocolate milkshake. Great food and a nice spot for lunch. Spotted a lolly shop at the mini golf which sold ice cream as well. Just had to have a liquorice ice-cream – very nice.
We took the dogs for a walk across the bridge in Lakes Entrance. Didn’t make it all the way to the beach as there were signs up saying no dogs allowed. We walked back over the bridge, back to the car and headed back to our camp spot in Bairnsdale.
Fresh Prawns with Wasabi Mayo and fish on the Weber
The fresh prawns were delicious dipped in a bit of wasabi and mayonnaise. David shared our excess/leftover prawns with some of our camping neighbours.
The fresh gummy shark was delicious cooked up on the weber. After dinner we took the dogs for another night walk along the nearby track along the Mitchell River.
