While on our second day on holidays we had already worked out our TOP 3 Port Douglas Eating and Drinking places. They are Jimmy Rum’s Mixing Lounge, The Little Larder & Seabean Port Douglas. The food and service is excellent at all 3 and we went back multiple times during our holiday.
- Jimmy Rum’s Mixing Lounge – for a relaxing place to have a drink before heading out to dinner, or after dinner this is the place to go. Fantastic service, enormous range of cocktail choices and on select nights live music.
- The Little Larder – best coffee, breakfast and lunch options in Port Douglas. Great service and yummy food.
- Seabean Tapas Bar Restaurant – Tapas bar with lots of delicious choices. Great for sharing and experiencing different food.
The Little Larder for a Coffee Fix
The best coffee to be had in Port Douglas is at “The Little Larder”. We ate breakfast and lunch here too and all the food we had was fantastic!
We started the day with some toast for breakfast in our room before walking down to the main street to The Little Larder for a coffee fix and then a wander around the shops.
Shopping in Port Douglas
There are plenty of boutique style shops, homewares, souvenirs, art galleries and more scattered amongst cafes and restaurants. You will find designer label bikinis, sandals, ladies clothes and mens clothes. There is a big Coles which provides fresh meat and produce for locals and tourists.
We meandered up and down the main street checking out the shops that we were interested in.
Mocka’s Pies for lunch
We like to taste and score the local meat pies while travelling. David had steak and onion pie, and sausage roll, and I tried a spinach pastry and chocolate milkshake.
The pie was great and my milkshake was excellent – generous serving and nice and chocolatey.
Stroll along Four Mile beach
We walked down to 4 mile beach and along the sand to about where Shantara Resort is and walked down a nearby street back to have a rest and lie down. We did keep away from the waters edge – still don’t trust the crocodiles that may be lurking reading for a feed! A few weeks after our visit we heard that four mile beach was closed due to a crocodile sighting between the flags!
The beach was also closed last Monday when a crocodile swam through the flagged zone. A lifeguard spotted the crocodile about 60m offshore, around the yellow and red buoys. Andrea Falvo, The Cairns Post September 5, 2018 12:04pm
Wine and cheese and swim.
A friend was staying in a nearby hotel in Port Douglas for a couple of nights. Arriving in Port Douglas in the afternoon we met up and shared a bottle of wine, had some cheese, nibbles and a swim in the pool. Lots of laughs and fun with great company!
Its convenient having access to the pool directly from your room. Easy to get in and out. We enjoyed floating around and relaxing on the pool noodles.
Jimmy Rum’s Mixing Lounge…again
We dropped into Jimmy Rum’s Mixing Lounge and had a lavachill cocktail. Love this place so much!
Very entertaining to sit at the bar and watch the cocktail being made by Nick.
Seabean Tapas Bar Restaurant…again
We loved Seabean Tapas bar. You know its good when you know you can go back and try some different dishes and have a repeat of the yummy dishes from the previous visit.
We shared some dishes including – Calamari, Prawns, mushrooms with blue cheese sauce, paella with seafood.
Central Hotel
The Central is a great casual place to stop on the way back to the hotel to have a drink and enjoy live music. We love watching all the locals dancing and holiday makers watching as they walk by.
