A Wander around Maldon, Espresso Martini and a Yummy Dinner.

Breakfast at the Larder where we were guaranteed great coffee. It was extremely busy and we were lucky to get a table for 2 at the front overlooking the street. ( we did feel like monkeys at the zoo with everyone looking at us as they walked by). We ordered and got the coffee straight away and then waited and waited to order some food. Patience this weekend seemed to keep coming back to test us. We ordered, waited, ate and left.

Maldon Bakery for a Pie

We like to have a pie at country bakeries at some stage on our trips away. We had a walk around Maldon and stopped in and  caught up with my cousin Lesley and her mum (the forever young Aunty Margaret) at her shop “Tangled Bazaar”. (Tangled Bazaar stocks a fantastic array of  Mediterranean/Asian giftware). We then headed up  the main street to the Maldon Historic Bakery for some lunch. The pies were delicious!

Maldon is a lovely country town to visit with lots of interesting shops to meander through up and down the main street.

Farmers Arms and a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini

Just out of Daylesford is the Farmers Arms Hotel. We stopped and had a Salted Caramel Expresso Martini for the first time. It was very yummy. David watched the Martini being made and was surprised to see it come out of a jar! See below for instructions on how its done – the easy way.

How to make a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini the Cheats way!

  1. Go to Dan Murphy’s and buy a jar of pre-made “Salted Caramel Espresso Martini”. Chill.
  2.  Open jar and add a couple of ice blocks, put lid back on and shake until frothy ( or place in a cocktail shaker, and shake, shake, shake.. for more froth)
  3. Pour into Martini Glass and decorate with a couple of coffee beans.
  4. Enjoy!

While there are many recipes out there for Salted Caramel Espresso Maritini’s you can do it the easy way – buy a jar, add ice, shake and pour.

Michael Parker and the Stony Creek Gallery, Daylesford

This is a must see Gallery and Garden not far from the main township of Daylesford. The gallery is beautifully curated with not only Michael Parker’s work but other talented artists as well. Out the back are some fantastic sculptures and beautiful vertical gardens which are all nicely put together.

We love the crazy paving and the stones in between, and the vertical gardens!

Garlic Prawns, Steak, Corn and Salad

We stopped off at Coles in Daylesford and bought a handful of prawns, some steak, fresh corn on the cob and a salad pack. We cooked up a yummy dinner and enjoyed sitting out on the balcony of our cabin. Last night at the end of another great mini holiday not far from Melbourne.
