Port Douglas to Trinity Beach by Bus

We have been to Port Douglas a few times and thought it would to weave in an additional destination on the way back to Cairns. We booked a couple of nights in Trinity beach which is located about 15 minutes drive north of Cairns.

Last Breakfast in Port Douglas

We packed up our stuff and headed off for a casual stroll to have breakfast for the last time at The Little Larder. I had decided that I was going to have a “Dukes Donut” for breakfast. We had spotted them a few days earlier at The Little Larder. Unfortunately for me on Tuesdays Dukes Donuts are not delivered. Instead I went for the next sweet thing which was a magnificent looking almond croissant. And it did not disappoint – it was rich and delicious and I enjoyed burping it up for the rest of the morning.

David had a sensible poached eggs and bacon – which looked delicious! We walked back to the hotel via the Marina and watched some of the boats come and go.

Onwards to Trinity Beach in a little bus

Always sad to leave Port Douglas but looking forward to new adventures and seeing Trinity Beach.

After a little discussion with the friendly bus driver we discovered he and his family used to live around the corner from our place in Melbourne. Small world!

Lunch at Trinity Beach Bar and Grill

We were hungry and shared nachos and a steak sandwich. Huge serving sizes and was great food for a strange mix of business in the same location.

There was a couple of racks of clothes,  and a really crappy convenience store  selling overpriced groceries and supplies in an adjoining room – ( advice would be to go for food and ignore everything else.)

Closest Supermarket 20 minutes walk

We bought some bread, dip and a few other things from the closest supermarket in Trinity Beach.

We walked back to the hotel via the beach and sat and had a drink on the very windy beach.

Windy Afternoon at Trinity Beach

The apartment we were staying had an inviting looking pool however the water was cold, and the strong wind coming off the ocean made the air temperature feel cold too. Brave Dave went in for a dip ( see the strong man in the feature photo at the top of this page) and I sat in the sun on a banana lounge and watched him floating around.

Sunset  and L’Unico Trattoria Italiano for Dinner

Trinity beach we found had limited dining opportunities and after reading some views and checking out a couple of places went for what appeared to be the only nice place to have dinner – L’Unico Trattoria Italianor. We checked out the pub and it would be fine if you have kids and love playing pokies. ( We hate pokies!)

The service and management could do with improvement. We had multiple waiting staff taking our orders and not telling each other. Cocktails came out all wrong and the paper straws that came with it provided us with a massive challenge on how to suck it up!  David managed to get some more straws and we ended up not using any.

The food well and truly made up for the shit service. We had garlic bread, oysters, calamari and gnocchi. Yummy!
