We had so much fun last year in Daylesford while the Chillout festival was on that we decided we would go back for more! This time we were going to check out the Lost Trades Fair in Kyneton on the way. First stop was dropping off our dogs at “doggy prison” ( because they are spoilt dogs and enjoy being at home being pampered by us – we call it “doggy prison”). I like to think they get treated well but will never know what really goes on.
Traffic Jams and Queues
There is nothing worse than getting stuck in a traffic jam with no way of exiting to go another way. Unbelievable that VicRoads decided it would be a good idea to do roadworks at the start of a long weekend when there are so many events and people travelling around country Victoria. We weren’t the only frustrated people stuck in the traffic jam. We finally got off the Calder Hwy only to be stuck in a another gridlock getting to Kyneton Racecourse, and then the carpark.
Lost Trades Fair Kyneton, Victoria
The Lost Trades Fair is a great opportunity to see demonstrations of skills from the past from very talented crafts people. It was very crowded with lots of people – not ideal if you don’t like crowds and waiting.

There were queues to everything. If we ever go again it will be very early to avoid traffic and the crowds.
Chillout at Daylesford Cider
Arrive at Daylesford Holiday Park
We had booked a cabin at the same place where we camped in a tent the previous year. ( Dave did his back middle of last year so camping is something we will get back into when he can confidently lift heavy things again).
As far as cabins go it was really nice with a pretty leafy outlook and private.
We unpacked and then had a rest before getting ready to go into town to have dinner and party!
Saturday night party time at Daylesford Hotel
The Daylesford Hotel knows how to get the people in and there certainly were lots of interesting sorts around. We got lots of looks from other party goers and questions as to why we were there.
As possibly the only “straight” people at the venue we really were the minority group within a minority group!
There were representations from all parts of life and some very interesting looking people with beards, wigs, dresses and lipstick! I exchanged hair care tips and got to see through some orange tinted sunglasses that apparently made everything look like Miami!
What we love about the whole night is that we can go and have fun chatting and dancing ( yes I can sort of dance with the help of drinks) with a variety of interesting entertaining colorful characters.
We also met up with the gorgeous Matt and Tim from Queensland who we met last year – which made the night just perfect.
