What to do in the Tarra Valley

As this was our second visit to the Tarra Valley and we had already done some of the touristy things, we were looking for new places to see and explore. We read through some of the brochures and decided to drive to Port Welshpool and then onto Agnes Falls. We hadn’t planned on seeing the Wind Turbines but as we could see them we drove closer to get a better look.

Port Welshpool  and a Stroll Down the Jetty

Port Welshpool is a town in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. Other than the jetty there is not much else to see in Port Welshpool. If you are into fishing there were plenty trying their luck off the edge of the pier. We were unable to access the Long Jetty when we visited as there was construction works going on around it.

There are great views of Wilsons Promontory in the distance.

Agnes Falls and a Scenic Walk

Its a lovely drive from the Tarra Vally to Agnes Falls. Very pretty scenery.

Agnes Falls is an easy 5 minute walk from the carpark. The paths and barriers are well made. Its a unexpected 60metre drop to the bottom of the falls and it is spectacular place to visit.

The paths and steps are well made and there are seats along the way if you need a rest or want to take in the scenery.

Amazing Looking Wind turbines

I had never seen Wind Turbines in the landscape before. They stand majestically in the rolling green hills and their slow movement is lovely to see. I got out of the car to take some photos and I was surprised that they were making quite a bit of noise as they turned around in the wind. I am sure the locals probably don’t like them, or the noise they make!

We drove down to and around the town of Toora. Not much going on  so we decided to drive to the next town of Foster.

Lunch in Foster

We checked out the eating places in Foster and decided to try Ando’s Bakery. Dave had his usual Pie and Sausage Roll ( I tend to have a nibble of both. More than a nibble if its good)  Dave rated the pie  7 out of 10, and the sausage roll and Chocolate Milkshake was excellent.

Exhausted

By the time we got back to Best Friend Holiday Retreat we were exhausted. We had packed a lot into the day and its always a bit of an effort to get the dogs in and out of the car every time we stopped to look at something.

Dinner cooked in the dark on the BBQ

It did get dark and cold early in the evening at this time of year. With outside lights hitting the BBQ Dave cooked up some steak and sausgages while I cooked  some corn on the cob on the stove top, and made a salad.

Steak on the BBQ
Steak on the BBQ

The highlight of the dinner was corn! The steak was a bit disappointing once we noticed the dye in the steak was very red. We get the same steak from Coles all the time and its normally great, however something to do with a lower cooking heat and letting it stand for a bit, made the extremely bright red dye they clearly pump into it really noticeable!
