Queensland has a reputation for sun and surf and is a great State to live in or as a holiday destination. If you drive south of Brisbane you will pass a number of adventure parks and come to the Gold Coast, which is another beautiful stretch of beach and suburbs that are slightly more commercialised than those up North.
Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and is located in the south eastern corner of Queensland. Brisbane is named after the Brisbane River which flows around the city. The city itself is on a low lying flood plain whilst the surrounding suburbs are quite hilly. Brisbane has an extensive transport network within the city and out to regional areas. Public transport available includes bus, rail and ferry services.
There are hundreds of places to holiday throughout Queensland. The coastline is extremely popular as it is flanked by beautiful beaches, lots of surf and the Great Barrier Reef. Queensland is one of the most popular holiday and tourist destinations in the world.

Ekka
Formerly known as the Royal Queensland Show, the Ekka is held at the Brisbane Exhibition Centre and showcases all of Queensland’s culture, resources, produce and initiatives. With more than 400,000 visitors every year, the Ekka is Queensland’s most popular festival and is held in August each year.
Riverfestival
The Riverfestival began in 1998 and is a week-long festival that celebrates the Brisbane River. It is a held in September each year at the South Bank Parklands.
Brisbane International Film Festival
This annual festival is held in Brisbane in July/August each year and focuses on documentaries, short films, feature films, late night thrillers and children’s films. There are special screenings all around Brisbane.
Brewsvegas
This new festival which only began in 2014 is dedicated to celebrating craft beer in Australia. To be held in late March each year, the festival takes place in more than 30 venues and consists of beer tastings, gourmet food, home brewing for beginners, cook offs and beard growing competitions.
Brisbane Festival
This is an annual arts festival held for three weeks in September each year in Brisbane. Programs available include theatre, dance, opera and contemporary music, comedy and circuses.
