The Sydney Harbour Bridge

Sydney Harbour Bridge

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the most well known bridges in the world.  It is one of the greatest landmarks in Australia and a favourite amongst all tourists to Australia. The bridge was opened in 1932 and links the city centre with the north shore suburbs of Sydney.  The bridge is made of steel and reaches across the Sydney Harbour, enabling cars, bicycles, trains and pedestrians to cross from one side to the other.  There are eight lanes for vehicles, two train lines, a pedestrian footway and a cycleway.  It is the world’s largest (but not longest) steel arch bridge.  The top of the arch is 134 metres above sea level.
