Liquorice Ice Cream Highlight of a Sunday in Port Douglas

I love liquorice ice cream and came across the best I have ever had in Port Douglas! We were walking past Capannina late the night before while they were packing up. I asked if they had Licorice ice cream and the owner said yes! We told her we would be back the next day to try one.

Breakfast at Cafe Fresq

My friend wanted to try Cafe Fresq for breakfast so we met here there and had a a variety of different dishes between us. We did have to wait for a table but it was worth it.

Dave tried Spanish eggs with chorizo and capsicum. My friend had a mushroom and spinach dish. And my sweet tooth led me to French Toast with a poached pear. It looked so pretty and was delicious!

Port Douglas Market on a Sunday

With a full tummy we headed down the Port Douglas Market. The market in Port Douglas on a Sunday is full of a variety of stalls with plenty of souvenirs, artwork, craft, jewellery, nuts, fresh produce and many other interesting things. Well worth a casual walk through.

St Mary’s by the Sea Church

The market is next to the beautiful church in Port Douglas. St Mary’s by the Sea is open to have a wander through and we dropped in and sat down in the church and rested our feet and took in the magnificent view through a large open window.

Best Liquorice Ice Cream – Delicate and Delicious!

This was the best Liquorice Ice Cream I have ever eaten. It was white in color – which is different from the dark grey colored liquorice ice-creams I have tried in the past. It had a lovely delicate flavour. We met the owner of Capannina who recognised us from the night before. We promised to come back and she was happy we did!

We all enjoyed our ice-cream which ended up being a substitute lunch.

Swim at Shantara Resort Pool

After all the walking in the heat it was time for a splash and float around the pool.

Re-charging in preparation for another night full of fun.

Jimmy Rum’s Mixing Lounge

A different cocktail to start the night. An espresso martini each which was sipped and enjoyed in the relaxing environment that  Jimmy Rums Mixing Lounge is known for.

We then took our friend to Nautilus Restaurant for another cocktail and to see the tropical feel it has. Its a lovely setting and nice sitting underneath the canopy of towering tropical “jungle”.

Hemingway’s Brewery  at the Marina packing up at 9pm

We almost missed dinner. We thought the Marina area would be busy but it was the opposite. The kitchen at Hemingways was packing up so we made a snap decision to have a pizza and a sweet potato dish. The sweet potato chips were soft and fluffy in the middle with a crisp outer shell. We meandered back after dinner for an early night.

The highlight of the day for me was the yummy liquorice ice-cream from Capanniana!
