How to Cook Steak and Chips on the Weber® Baby Q™

Weber® Baby Q™ Cooks Steak and Chips our Camping Favorite Meal

One of David’s favorite meals is steak and chips. Its easy to do on the Weber® Baby Q™. You will want to cook your chips first ( like you would in a normal oven) as they will take longer. Cooking times will vary a bit depending on the size of  your steak how you like it cooked. When we are cooking Steak at home in a fry pan we heat the pan up, oil and salt the steak on one side and place it in the hot pan. After a minute the steak is turned, oil and salt added to the other side. Cooking for a total of 7 minutes, turning every minute. Then the steak is left to stand for 5-10 minutes. Sometimes if the steak is thicker it will take longer. With this in mind we use the same sort of methods when cooking on the Weber.

Keep in mind the weather can play a part in cooking times too. A cold windy day will take much longer for the food to cook than a hot summers day.

What you will need:

  • Steak ( we like porterhouse or eye fillet )
  • Potatoes
  • Mushrooms and Broccolini (give or take the mushrooms and broccolini – use what you have 🙂 )
  • Bread Roll
  • Garlic Clove
  • Butter
  • Salt flakes
  • Oil

The way we cook Steak and Chips on the Weber® Baby Q™:

  1. Take the steak out of your fridge/esky an hour before cooking to get to room temperature
  2. Heat Weber® Baby Q™ ready for cooking. (If using a small frypan heat that up in the bbq too.)
  3. Peel ( or leave skin on if you like it that way) and chop potatoes into chips, place in bowl and toss in a little oil.
  4. Prepare garlic bread – cut bread roll in half and spread with butter and garlic.
  5. Add potato chips to small fry pan, or foil container and close Weber® Baby Q™ lid.
  6. Check after about 10 minutes and turn as the chips are cooking. Check with a skewer when they are looking like they are cooked ( but not too brown)
  7. Drop a little oil on the steak and sprinkle salt, do the same to the mushrooms and add to the Weber® Baby Q™ and close the lid.
  8. Turn the steak after a few minutes and add a little oil and salt to the other side of the steak. Add the garlic bread.
  9. After a few minutes more take the steak out of the weber when cooked to your liking –  and stand for about 5- 10 minutes. Add the broccolini to the grill on the Weber® Baby Q™ and close the lid.
  10. Cook broccolini for a few minutes.
  11. Plate everything up and enjoy!
