Coolum on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland

Priding itself on a laid back and relaxed nature, Coolum is one of the most beautiful and unique beachside towns on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland. It provides a pleasant change from the other busy towns of the Sunshine Coast making it the perfect location for your holiday or weekend away with the family. This seaside hideaway is easily accessible mainly because it is just off Bruce Highway 120 kilometres north of Brisbane and just 20 minutes south of Noosa.

Coolum Beach

Coolum Beach offers a safe place for swimming and surfing for the whole family on a beautiful pristine beach.  The main beach is located in front of the Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club, right in the heart of the town.  While Coolum is not as well known as some of its neighbours including Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Noosa, it is one of the most desirable holiday destinations in Australia.

The Annual Coolum Kite festival is held each October on Coolum Beach and draws in thousands of tourists.  The event showcases kiting talents of locals and international visitors. Besides offering a fun day out for the entire family, this event also captures the essence of the unique Coolum Beach lifestyle.

This beach is one of the best kept secrets of the Queensland coastline with plenty of accommodation, family friendly beaches and plenty to do.

Mt Coolum National Park

The history of this community can be found at Mt Coolum National Park which is rich in Aboriginal tradition and history.

The focal point of the National Park is Mt Coolum. This volcanic dome is most noticeable for its roughly circular outline and flat summit which stands 208 meters high. Another noticeable feature of Mt Coolum’s geology is the crystal/columnar joining pattern that is visible on the main cliffs and also on the faces of the abandoned quarry. You can also enjoy the breathtaking 360 degrees view of the surrounding national parks, beaches, Sunshine Coast Hinterland and sugar cane fields. The lack of a peak, comfortable walking track and diverse plant life makes the experience enjoyable and unforgettable.  It is a challenging walk that can be enjoyed by all ages.

Bli Bli Castle

A visit to the Medieval-style Bli Bli Castle is another ideal activity while visiting Coolum. Located off David Low Way, this medieval fairy tale castle overlooks the Maroochy River and is home to various displays that will please the entire family. The Medieval Armour and the Dungeon Torture Chamber will entertain the boys, while the girls will be amused by the Doll Museum which houses 2200 dolls.  Offering teas, lunches and a charming souvenir shop, Bli Bli Castle has something for everyone.
