Shantara Resort Port Douglas – No noisy children!

Shantara Resort is adults only

You won’t find noisy children splashing in the pool at any time of the day at Shantara. Its not that we don’t like children… we just don’t like the noise they make in a pool on holidays. This resort is strictly couples only. We love this place (ok because there are no kids allowed.) Shantara is located within walking distance of Macrossan Street, Port Douglas, four mile beach and the marina – perfect!

The Pool at Shantara is so inviting

We stayed at Shantara Resort a year ago and were in a room on the first floor. This time we opted for a smaller apartment with direct pool access. This was so much better!

The door from our room opened up to a deck onto the pool. We went for swims multiple times a day without having to walk through the main reception area, in the lift and then to the room.

The pool looks so inviting and it is. The temperature of the pool was a warm 30 degrees and beautifully landscaped with tropical palms and plants.

Blue lit pool at night

At night the pool is lit up with blue colored lights. It looks magical.

We either sat on the edge of the deck from our room with our feet dangling in or had a quiet dip. There is a communal respect of quietness at this place that makes you feel like you do need to be quiet.

The pool is important but so is the bed

You have to have a comfortable bed on holidays. No problems sleeping here. Very comfortable bed, the only issue being my loud snoring partner that keeps me awake sometimes.

Nice big shower

The shower was nice and big. The only thing that annoyed me was the lack of shelving to put toiletries on and hooks to hand up wet bathers and towels. This did annoy me on our last visit in the bigger room as it had the same problem. When you are going for swims and having showers you need somewhere to put your clothes you are about to put on, and to hand up your wet bathers to dry for your next swim. When we stay at Shantara again I will be taking my own extra hooks to hang on the towel rail!

Peppers for beer across the road

Our second visit to Shantara we ventured across the road to Peppers to see what was on offer there. This appears to be more family orientated than Shantara with kids playing in and along the edge of the water late into the afternoon. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner to the general public and bonus… they have a happy hour.

We discovered that this was a fantastic place to get a beer with a magnificent man made beach outlook. Best done well before sunset so you can get down to the marina sin time to watch the sun setting and the boats coming back in.
